A problem people bring · solved

Keep evidence online for good

Arweave stores files with a one-time payment so they stay online without a host, and small files are free through ArDrive. Start by publishing just a fingerprint, which proves the file existed at that time, then release the file when you are ready. Skip these: private details about real people. You cannot delete it either, so get advice before you post.

Chapter 1

Who knew?

the bits nobody tells you
Oh! #1
Files under about 100 KiB are free to store permanently through ArDrive Turbo.
Turbo covers small uploads at no cost.
Oh! #2
Permanent cuts both ways: you can never delete it, even if it later endangers someone.
Arweave is designed so that data persists without its uploader.
Oh! #3
You can publish just a fingerprint today and reveal the file later.
A hash proves a file existed at that time without showing it.
People assume

Keeping files online means paying a host forever and hoping they never comply with a takedown.

Actually

Small files store free; larger ones are a one-time fee bought with a card. Gateways that display files can still block them, but the data stays on the network.

Questions

Can a government or company remove files stored on Arweave?

Gateways can block display in some places, but the data stays on the network and other gateways may show it.

Can I delete something I published permanently by mistake?

No. That is the point and the risk. Never upload private details or anything you might regret.

Is publishing evidence permanently legal everywhere?

No. Defamation, privacy and secrecy laws apply. Get legal advice before publishing about real people.

How much does it cost to store a large file permanently?

Small files are free; larger ones cost a one-time fee in Turbo Credits, which you can check before uploading.

The spark

What record would your community want to still be checkable in twenty years?

Some links are referral links; they never change what we recommend.
