A problem people bring · solved
I want a name nobody can take
You can own your name online the way you own a key: register an ENS name from about 5 dollars a year plus tiny gas, and it lives in your wallet while you renew. Point it at your wallets, links and avatar, then hand out free subnames to family or your community.

Chapter 1
Who knew?
One ENS name can hold your wallet addresses, links and avatar in one place.
Registration gas is now tiny, averaging under 5 cents, so the yearly fee is most of the cost.
You can hand out subnames to a whole group, and some tools issue them gasless.
Paying for several years at once can cost less per year under ENSv2 pricing proposals.
It costs hundreds like premium domains.
Names of five or more characters cost about 5 dollars a year plus gas; 4 characters cost 160 and 3 characters 640. A DAO proposal tied to ENSv2 would raise 5+ character names to 8 dollars with multi-year discounts, so check the app.

Questions
Do I own my ENS name forever?
You own your ENS name as long as you keep renewing it, and nobody can take it while it is paid.
What does an ENS name cost?
An ENS name of five or more characters costs about 5 dollars a year plus gas, though ENSv2 pricing may raise that to 8 dollars.
Can an ENS name replace my email?
No. An ENS name is a name for wallets and profiles, not a mailbox.
What if I forget to renew my ENS name?
ENS gives a grace period, 90 days at the time of writing, before the name is released.
If your whole family shared one name online, what would you call it?
Some links are referral links; they never change what we recommend.
